Harold E. “Scookie” Frye Jr., 77, of New Ringgold, died Wednesday, July 26, 2017, in his home. He was the husband of Diane (Haupt) Frye. They celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on November 28, 2016. Born in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Harold E. Sr. and Helen (Kerestus) Frye. He was a veteran of the US Navy, where he served aboard the USS Yellowstone. After his military service, he was employed by Richard Ryon Construction, Cresswell, and by Detroiter Homes. Harold then entered law enforcement working for and retiring from the Reading Police Department as a Patrolman, Detective and Sergeant. While working full time and raising a family, he attended Alvernia College where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree, studying criminal justice. After retirement, he was a security guard and counselor at Our House, Reading and a security guard at JDM Inc. Harold was active in local government and served as an East Brunswick Township Supervisor. Harold was a member of Christ Church McKeansburg. He was a life member of the Schuylkill Fire Co. #12 of Reading and the New Ringgold Fire Co., a member of the Reading FOP Lodge #9 and Pine Creek Fishing Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Dennis and his wife Nancy, New Ringgold; two daughters, Michele and her husband Michael Mohn, Mohnton and Joy and her husband David Sherer, Pottsville; two sisters, Shirley Shamonsky, Hometown and Sandra and her husband Terry Aregood, Deer Lake; mother-in-law, Verna Haupt, New Ringgold, seven grandchildren, Jacob Frye, Zachary Frye and his wife Kelly, Rebecca Sherer, Bradley Frye, Jonathan Sherer, Lydia Mohn and Hanna Mohn, a great granddaughter Holley Frye, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11am on Monday, July 31, 2017, at Christ Church McKeansburg, 1751 Chestnut St. New Ringgold, with Rev. Mark Shellhamer and Seminarian Jonathan Heim officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9-11am on Monday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Contributions may be made in his name to Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W.
