James L. Zanders, 70, of Lehighton, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. He was the husband of the late Kathryn “Kathy” Zanders, who passed away on December 10, 2013. Prior to retiring, he was a mechanic with the Lehighton Borough, previously with Easton Mack Truck Sales, and he also worked part time for the Times News. Born in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Frieda Weaver. James was a veteran of the Navy, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was an active member in the Lehighton American Legion Post 314, Lehigh Fire Co. #1, Packerton Old Timers Club, Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club, East Penn Sporting Club, and Lehighton Masonic Lodge #621. James loved to joke around with family and friends. He enjoyed Pa Dutch food, culture, and their language. He liked collecting things of interest, and farming, but most of all he liked the simple things in life. Surviving are a son, Steven Zanders and his companion Andrea Mitzak, of Easton; two daughters, Theresa, wife of Jonathan Troutman, of Lehighton, and Rachel Zanders and her companion Alex Duppel, of Easton; six grandchildren, Kristi, wife of Zayne Green, Jaclyn, Elizabeth, Jon, Cody Troutman and Mila Zanders; two great grandchildren, Max and Lola Green. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, April 10, at the Packerton Old Timers Club, 102 Pine St. Lehighton, with military honors administered by the Lehighton UVO. Following the service, the family invites friends to share in a time of fellowship and refreshments.
