On Saturday, October 19, 2019, Marie I. (Jebitsch) Mayernik passed away at the age of 81. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Marie was born on December 13, 1937 to Irene (Bretz) and Alfred Jebitsch. She graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1955, and found such joy in keeping in touch with her classmates all these years.
Marie married Walter A. Mayernik on September 15, 1956. They lived in the Alton Park neighborhood with their 5 children. Their home was always filled with neighbors, friends, and family, especially on Christmas Eve.
Marie was passionate with her love of family, but had no problem telling it like it is. She was courageous and resilient – qualities that allowed her to bravely raise her family after the untimely passing of her beloved husband Walter in 1979.
Marie retired in 2005 from Cleveland School in the Allentown School District. Marie loved to host card nights on Tuesdays, and she treasured getting together with her friends for their weekly “Stitch & B*tch” gatherings. She was a devoted supporter of CCHS football and basketball, but was the biggest fan of her children/ grandchildren/ great-grandchildren/ nieces/ nephews in their variety of activities.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children Sylvia (Victor) Pituch, Rose Ann (Theodore) Eschner, John (Camille) Mayernik, Stephen (Pamela) Mayernik, and Mary Beth (George) Klesh; her grandchildren: Michele (Hunter), Meghan (Eric), Cara (Perry), Mark, Eric, Brian, Nicholas, Logan, and Hannah; great-grandchildren: Lucille, Emmett, Adelaide, Jonah, Ayla, Julia; her brother James (Linda) Jebitsch; her “sister” Linda Mancinelli; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Moravian King's Daughters Home for their kindness and compassion, and for welcoming our family at any hour during Marie's stay.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marie’s memory can be made out to Victor B. Pituch at 2449 W. Fairview St. Allentown, PA 18104.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the St. Thomas More Church, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown, PA 18103, with Rev. Msgr. John P. Murphy. Memorial visitation 10-11am. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown.
