Robert “Bob” Stanley Runk, 85, of Hometown, Pennsylvania, made his transition to be with the Lord and his love, Karen, on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in his home.
Bob was the son of Lester Runk and Elizabeth Murphy Runk. He was born on August 22, 1938 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He graduated from McCaskey High School in 1956. Bob enlisted in the US Navy and was active duty aboard the USS Pawcatuck from 1957-1961.
Bob married the love of his life, Karen, in 1978. They lived together in Hometown, PA for many years, where he was an employee of J.E. Morgan Knitting Mills. Bob and Karen relocated to Palm Bay, FL in 2005. They returned to Hometown in 2019. Bob is survived by his daughter, Kelly Arner and her husband Shaun, and his son Michael Runk and his wife Amanda. Bob was best known as “Pop Pop” by his grandchildren, Chad, Ethan, Nolan, and Lucas.
Bob was a dedicated firefighter throughout his life. He was past Chief of the Hometown Fire Company and was actively involved in the Malabar Fire Department in Florida. When he moved back to Hometown he enjoyed spending time at the Hometown Fire Company, especially on Tuesday nights reminiscing with members, new and old. Bob was also a 60 year member of Lamberton Masonic Lodge #476 and a 50 year Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley of Lancaster.
Bob was the proudest Father and Pop Pop there was, and loved telling anyone and everyone about his kids and grandkids accomplishments, from small to great. He made it to every concert and sporting event there was, as their #1 supporter. Bob enjoyed every moment spent with family and friends. With Bob, you were always guaranteed a smiling face, good conversation, and a joke or two. He was a friend to all and like a dad to many. Some of Bob’s favorite past times included gardening, listening to music, visiting OCMD, and playing his favorite Nintendo game, Dr. Mario.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made payable to the Hometown Fire Company and sent to 45 Mahanoy Avenue, Tamaqua, PA 18252 in memory of Bob.
A service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 10:00 am at Sky View Memorial Park for close friends and family.
